Garden Room Decking Replacement in Swadlincote

Garden room with newly laid decking running the full width of the front, painted grey

What we were called out for

An existing customer got back in touch about the decking around their garden room. It had been down fifteen years, the boards had gone soft underfoot, and it had got to the point where it was a safety risk rather than just a tired-looking deck. The garden room is in daily use, so the deck is walked on every day rather than a few times a summer.

What we did

We took the old decking out completely — boards and the frame underneath. That part matters: when boards have gone soft after fifteen years, the joists they sit on have usually gone the same way, and laying new timber onto failing supports just hides the problem for a couple of years. Once it was stripped back we put in new foundations, built the frame back up from there, and decked it in pressure-treated timber.

The result

A solid, level deck that will not need thinking about for a long time. The customer painted it themselves once it had settled, picking up the grey of the window and door frames, which is why it now reads as part of the garden room rather than something bolted on to it. The old deck lasted fifteen years before it gave up; this one has new foundations under it and treated timber on top, so it should last at least as long.
